POROUS wins innovation award
POROUS GmbH receives prestigious Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award 2023 for groundbreaking ultrasound technology in osteoporosis detection. The award recognizes POROUS for its innovative work in making early detection of osteoporosis possible.
Julia Eschenbrenner, CEO at POROUS GmbH: “Being recognized as one of the most innovative startups, we have come one step closer to our goal with an accurate, cost-effective and X-ray-free ultrasound diagnosis of fracture risk, enabling the early detection of osteoporosis for the first time.”
Osteoporosis is a chronic bone disease affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Yet, osteoporosis remains under-treated, partly due to a lack of diagnosis.
POROUS GmbH’s quantitative ultrasound technology (QUS) aims at earlier and more precise osteoporosis diagnosis that could enable faster and more targeted patient treatment. The POROUS technology, invented by Prof. Dr. Kay Raum and his team at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, thus offers a significant leap forward in the prevention of osteoporosis. Current diagnostic methods using e.g. X-ray fall short by detecting osteoporosis more at advanced stages and in diseases related to secondary osteoporosis. POROUS GmbH’s AI-based product solution analyses bone with high-resolution ultrasound down to pore size level aims to close this gap efficiently.
